What a lousy euphemism: “help the homless”… when, in this case (as in many others) what that actually means, in practice, is “get rid of the homeless – in THIS area”. Usually what’s pinned onto that doublespeak is “steer them to services”.
WHAT “services” does Berkeley manifestly have for “the homeless”? Certainly not near enough “beds” in the local “shelters”… including the main downtown “shelter” that’s eerily like a jail, complete with bars on the bunkbedded cells… er, sleeping alcoves. And the institutionalized routine that anyone that DOES get in there must be subjected to, as if they are ALL criminals, addicts or mentally ill.
Sure, there ARE those of “the homeless” that are one or more of those kind. But not all. And there are next to NO “services” to get one OUT of being homeless, but to just perpetuate that, if a bit fed and clothed, etc. Enough to keep going… homeless.
But just don’t be that … well, right around here.
A recent meeting of the Telegraph business association, one of that “program’s sponsors” isn’t it, more explictly expressed the true agenda to deploy these paid minion “hosts” toward getting rid of the homeless people near the businesses and trades on the ave. THAT’s what they’re job truly is.
Why all the deceit?
super co-opted. these guys do approximately SHIT for outdoor people in Berkeley. their only purpose is so that upstanding citizens who read the back of their jackets are given the impression something is being done. wanna find out? dishevel yourself and go ask one for something, anything? where do i get a meal? how do i get housing? where’s the nearest NA or job training program?
find out.
love,
z. solo
